Can I volunteer in the lab instead of registering for credit?

No, students must be able to register for credit to be considered as an applicant. Find out more about PSY 5993 credit on the Psychology website.

What are the expected tasks of an RA?

RAs typically perform literature searches, data collection, data entry and cleaning, and data analysis, with the opportunity to pursue independent projects.

We expect RAs to commit 5-8 hours/week, in addition to attending weekly lab meetings. We're looking for motivated psychology students who are interested in pursuing a graduate program after undergrad.

Can I join as an honors student for my thesis?

Yes, honors thesis supervision is discussed on a case-by-case basis. Students interested in an honors thesis should have extensive previous research experience from this lab (i.e., two semesters) or past participation in another lab. Contact Dr. Douglass for more information about the opportunity of an honors thesis.

Can I apply for a UROP with the Minority Stress lab?

Yes! RAs who have worked in the lab for at least one semester are encouraged to apply for an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) grant. Learn more about applying for a grant on their UROP website.

What happens after I'm accepted into the lab?

After you're accepted, we'll ask you to complete IRB and HIPAA research trainings prior to starting at the lab.

We'll also ask that you complete a research contract to register for PSY 5993. Psychology Advising staff will review the completed contract and issue a permission number for students to register for the correct section of PSY 5993.
